GIRLS RUGBY 7S NEWS I In April, five players from the Noosa Dolphins Rugby Union Club will be travelling to North America to compete in the Tropical 7s tournament in Orlando, Florida.

Tropical 7s is one of the largest carnivals in the USA (with over 120 teams participating across the divisions in 2020), the girls will be competing in the U18 Elite Division, against the upcoming stars of the USA and Canada.

Whilst challenging, it will be a terrific opportunity for the girls to showcase Noosa’s talent on the international stage. In the four years of the carnival’s history, 2020 is the first year Australian sides will take part.

The Sunshine Coast Fever Girls Rugby 7s team will be made up of players from Caloundra to Gympie who are committed to building Girls Rugby 7s on the Sunshine Coast.

Their aim is to bring more girls to the sport a develop a competition and program on par with the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Travelling to the US will hopefully raise the profile of girls rugby on the Sunshine Coast and in turn encourage international youth teams to travel here for the Noosa 7s held every year in October/November.

The Noosa girls take pride in their role as ambassadors of the Sunshine Coast and are excited for the opportunity to participate in rugby 7s while promoting their hometown.

This tour is very much about empowering young women and showcasing the strength of the club and school competitions here on the Sunshine Coast.

The girls consider the opportunity a great privilege and honour to showcase their skills, whilst representing the region.

It is also a great way to feature the amazing travel opportunities that exist for young female rugby players.

The Sunshine Coast Fever Mega Fundraiser will be ‘Dropkicking our way to Orlando’ on Sunday 15 March 2020.

The team of 14 players and coach will complete 9,130 successful drop kick conversions, the distance in miles from Nambour to Orlando.

Every donation of $10 will earn a ticket in the Mega Raffle.
